MASTER’S PROGRAM

About the Program

The program covers the Major Art Branches of Wind and Percussion Instruments, Piano, String Instruments, and Composition, and aims to ensure continuous development on national and international platforms through the realization of academic and artistic activities such as thesis studies, concerts, midterm examinations, and final examinations.

For the Master’s program, applicants are determined as graduates of Conservatory Music Departments and graduates of Music Departments of Faculties of Music and Performing Arts.

For applications to the Major Composition and Major Conducting programs, in addition to Conservatory Music Department graduates, graduates of Musicology Departments of Faculties of Fine Arts, Music Departments of Faculties of Education, and Faculties of Music and Performing Arts are also eligible to apply.

Note: Applications from candidates whose academic background does not meet the specified eligibility criteria will not be considered.

Piano Art Branch

Interview (20%) + Portfolio (20%) + Performance (60%)

Interview:

Candidates will be asked questions related to their field.

Performance:

Instrument examination; the announced repertoire is expected.

Portfolio:

Must include all activities carried out during the undergraduate program and after graduation.

Fields Subject to Examination:

Composition Art Branch

Interview (30%) + Written (35%) + Performance (35%)

Interview:

An oral interview will be conducted with the candidate.

Performance:

Instrument Performance: The candidate must perform two musical pieces written for any instrument during the examination.

Composition: The candidate must submit written (3 copies) and audio (live performance, audio recording, MIDI, etc.) materials of four musical works composed for at least two different instrument groups.

Harmony (Realization and/or Analysis)*

Counterpoint (Realization and/or Analysis)*

Graduates of the undergraduate Composition program are exempt from this stage.

Interview (20%) + Portfolio (20%) + Performance (60%)

Interview:

Candidates will be asked questions related to their field.

Performance:

Instrument examination; the announced repertoire is expected.

Portfolio:

Must include all activities carried out during the undergraduate program and after graduation.

Fields Subject to Examination:

Portfolio, Interview, and Performance (Flute, Horn, Trombone)

Conducting Art Branch

Interview (30%) + Written (35%) + Performance (35%)

Interview:

At this stage, candidates will be interviewed on topics such as instrumental knowledge (general information about instruments may be requested), music history, general art culture, and score knowledge (candidates may be asked to identify composers, periods, and other details based on the texture of given scores).

Written:

Harmony: Figured Bass Realization and Harmonic Analysis (including modulations and seventh chords)

Performance:

Score Reading and Playing: Performance on piano of a work written for the String Instruments Group

Piano Performance: One work from the Baroque period and one from the Classical or Romantic periods

Conducting: Conducting a single-movement symphonic work or a movement of a symphonic work accompanied by two pianos. (Candidates must bring their own pianists.)

Final Success Score:

Scientific Examination (50%) + Undergraduate GPA (50%)
